The news is public now, so I figured I should announce it on my blog. I was offered a fantastic
opportunity to relocate to Hong Kong to work with the 360 Digital Influence regional team and I accepted!

I fell in love with Hong Kong pretty much the moment I stepped off the plane on my very first business trip there in 2008. It’s an exciting mashup of east and west, it’s a little like me .

Professionally it’s especially appealing because it means I am smack bang in the middle of Asia where there is still enormous growth and there are also 14 individual markets with different language, custom and culture.

More info soon but for now it’s a flurry of activity to get packed and ready before I fly out in a couple of weeks!

agency land is this frenetic ebb and flow of fast and slow. lately it’s been fast, extremely fast. the thirst for social media still grows unabated.

clients are getting more sophisticated with their needs and it has meant that at work we’ve been hiring at a cracking pace.

unfortunately that means that this pixel of the web goes untended. and the original horror at the decline of my UMVs dwindled to disgust to loathing to indifference and now it’s back to resolved.

so again, i will make the effort to update.

i have no excuse really. it’s not like i have to be coaxed for an opinion. i once had feedback on my performance appraisal that stated “jonathan has an opinion on everything.” which is true (in my defense it did follow up with “…but he’s willing to listen to everyone else’s as well.”)

and it’s not like i don’t have a preference for writing. i do.

it comes down to time and creative energy. during the week this might be difficult, but on a day like today, kicking back at one of my favourite cafes, there should be no excuse.

it just has to be done because i’d like my non-existent children to have feet.

i had a fantastic break and am now back. whilst on vacation, i had some time to rethink my blog and the topics i’d talk about being that i have so many social media sites to update.

so this year this blog will change slightly. i’ll still talk about social media, marketing and advertising but i’ve vowed to do more reviews. i am a gluttonous consumer of reviews and depend on them to make purchasing decisions, but i realised i so rarely contribute back to the commons. particularly, in light of the fact, i look for reviews on really weird things and am
always miffed when i can’t find a review.

i’m also going to get back on my soapbox a bit and comment on news and current affairs. there’s a part of me that still wants to be a columnist.

who says interesting communication can only exist online?

i’ve broken eleventy thousand cardinal rule of blogging. you’re all thinking “geez, doesn’t he advise people to blog regularly?”

well actually there’s probably no one out there reading this at the moment because i’ve been such a slacker.

quite simply i haven’t been blogging here because i’ve been so damn busy. apparently this time of year is crazy time in agency land.

anyway, what i have been doing is ALOT (and you know i don’t upper case easily) of social media work for clients at the moment. which means that i can come back here and collect my thoughts and share them with you my lovely readers.

first and foremost, for those industry observers amongst you, we’re definitely moved past the early adopters stages now well and truly in terms of social media uptake. judging by the brands we are seeing through the door in 360 digital influence, we have moved into the early majority stage now.

second, i’ve made it a bit of a priority to get back blogging because i have loads of unpublished posts sitting in drafts at the moment.

third, i’m just going to change the content mix of this blog a bit to put in some more fun stuff. seriously, even i get bored of talking about social media.

finally, i’ve got a bunch of ideas i want to float past you guys, so hold onto your hats.
